Wonderful

I think you’re wonderful

You who

Have fumbled along

Bringing joy and

Education

To others

Shared your music

And your art

The food you cook

The wine you make

I think

You are wonderful

When I see you

Staring at those garnet leaves

Glistening on the branches

Overhead

Watching the amber honey

Dripping in sunbeams

From the power lines

Laughing

As you commune with a blue-black beetle

Who intercepts your dewy path

Think

You are wonderful

As my brain opens again

Listening to music

Lift it high into the air sometimes to launch

Toes and fingers pointed

Arcing and diving

Like a rocket

Through the bright blue sky

Sometimes dropping

Heavier than any

Mortally crafted

Anchor

Beyond the deepest chasms

Into blackness

And determinedly, sometimes desperately,

Climbing back out

Again

I think you are

Wonder

Full

Of love

Even as you keep it

From yourself,

Stingy and

Punishing

As if

That Catholic guilt trip

You were given for years

Has to be self-sustained

Even now

I think

You are wonderful

As you shed the

“Shoulds”

In their stead

Gaining strength

In walking away

Literally

Walking a

Way

From hate

And ignorance

And into

Becoming aware

I think you are wonderful

Just

Because

You

Are
